Don’t let me laugh. Was Nkrumah that much loved during the early 1960s? He lived a scared life and did not trust anybody. Do you know who Gbedemah was? He was the most trusted ally of Nkrumah but find out why he fled Ghana from Nkrumah. Yes, was the friend of Nkrumah and was against his dictatorship and dictatorial rule. When Nkrumah finally found out that Gbedemah did not like what he was doing, Nkrumah tried to arrest and imprison or even kill him. Gbedemah had been with Nkrumah for a pretty long time and knew what Nkrumah could do. So, he finally fled Ghana with Millions of West African Pounds to Nigeria where it was still in use. He never came back to Ghana again until Nkrumah was kicked out of Office.
I am also against leaders having statues for themselves while still in office but History will teach us that it was Nkrumah who started it. Did he not effect a statue for himself that was pulled down after he was kicked out from office? I was young and remember Nkrumah’s statue being pulled and dragged through the streets of Accra among jubilations including Uniformed Police, Military, and Prison Officers.
In all seriousness and sincerity, Akuffo Addo’s statue should not have been destroyed because it could have been used as a teaching learning material for students and people who are against self glorification. If the statue had to be removed, it should have been left to the judiciary to handle that but not taking the laws into our own hands on such issues.
These happenings are great lessons for Ghanaians. Governments should not repeat what Nkrumah and Mahama did about erecting statues for themselves while still alive and in Office where they are paid by Ghanaians.

It is imperative to note that Nana was bestowed with the statue solely by the Western Regional Minister and the chiefs and populace of the Western Region, in recognition of his contributions to the region. Prudent discernment of facts is paramount before any accusations are made against the elderly. It is highly improbable that Nana would ever consent to the erection of a statue in Takoradi under any circumstances.

I would want the statue to stand as a reminder how Nana Addo adored himself more than Ghanaians, and the hypocrisy of the NPP.

But remember, there are also lots of pictures of Nkrumah's statue being downing by children and edged on by adults.

That same adult generation are building their status today and complaining of vandalism.

Either way, I don't approve of self glorification.
I did not like Rawlings a bit, but I must say, he was absolutely right to refuse Universities named after him.

normal sitting president erect or erected a statue of himself? This was when he has ruin the country and humiliated the chiefs and his own party members / sympathizers. In a country where someone performs exceptionally well, the country rather erects monument(s) in his memory. But in our case in Ghana from 2017-2024, Nana Akuffo Addo involved himself in looting with his brother, cousins, children, nephews and nieces. They took state lands and traveled in private jets across the globe whilst his country was struggling economically and begging the IMF for help.

My father built a Secondary School for his tribesmen in the 60s. He was just a poor teacher supported by a poor nurse (my mother) against all odds (ridicules, laughs) with her monthly salary to build the school. Not too soon after the govt came in and took the school from him. He was too tired after 10urs of establidhing the school and poor to fight the govt to get his school back.

Under Kuffuor when the judgement debt scsm was at its aprx a bunch of crooked lawyers came to see him to take compensation. His response was that his wealth in the school (which was then and still the biggest Secondary School in the tribe with a student population of 2500) is to see tribes children having an education and seeing them as medical doctors, engineers, Brigadier-Generals, Lawyers all over Ghana and the world. He gave the Lawyers their marching orders out of his small room in the village. He died in 2005.

In the early 2015 a group of people were machinating to erase his legacy in the school and endow it on their tribesman.

The whole tribe rose up from the Paramount Chief, subschief, Youth, farmers, women paid for and built a statue in his name and placed it in the midfle of the town giving him the title the "originator of education in the tribe and Founder and 1st Headteacher of xxxxx Secondary Sch"..

He built his statue in the heart of people when he was alive.. And tve people in turn built a physical one for him when he was dead. Nobody can tear a statue down if you build it in the hearts of people.

Building a statue to yourself when alive is self-aggrandisement. Let your works speak for itself and long after you are dead if your works still stands contributing to the lives of people they will acknowledge you and build a physical statue to you as a sign of appreciation.

Traditional rulers in the Western Region put up the statute to honour their President in appreciation for the remarkable infrastructural fascilities he had provided for the Effia-Nkwanta hospital and the Region as a whole. How can any objective person fault Akufo-Addo for that? In any case, is the UK Diplomat condoning the uncontrolled spate of illegal destruction of state facilities by these marauding NDC hoodlums? There were clashes, matchet welding, veating and fights at Potsin and several places. His denouncing of the expresidents statutes set the stage for the atracks and eventual vandalisation. Many other state institution, GNPC, Police stations, EC ofices, NADMO offices were raided and attacked by hoodlums. Attacking Ablekuma MP's home with an intention to harm is very grievous and contravenes the Biblical injunction of the snanctity of human lives. The people who vandalised the statue should be hunted down in the pursuit of rule of law. It does not augur well for any side. Ghana remains a bastion of democracy. Solve your problems by the rule of law. It has been done before when the renovation of the ex presidents house with alleged tax payers money was taken to Human Rights and Adm Justice Court.This jungle thing must stop in thus nation.
