Are you aware that the people who determine the world price of cocoa and who at the same time have made us aware of the benefits of cocoa to Ghana and to the world, have by and large, not likely ever seen a cocoa pod before? Without them and their demand for the commodity, the cocoa fruit and plant would be irrelevant. In the world that we live in today, the cocoa pod and beans, the farmer and the countries that produce the commodity have become much less important to the global commodity traders who only know figures.

Financial analysts on the Chicago Merchantile Exchange deal with the cocoa futures and determine its prices. On the spot markets however(where Gahana belongs) , where The real commodity is sold ; we can’t determine the price. We don’t even produce enough beans to be a price maker; we take the price they offer us. Secondly , even if we produced so much in quantity and could determine price, they’d still strongarm us because we don’t have storage facilities for our beans and will eventually have to sell quick to avoid decay.

Ghana is a basic cocoa producer. Basic because we don’t even add value to what we produce. As boss of cocobod, you’d have to deal with the basic on the ground issues.; something Randy Abbey simply cannot do. He lacks the expertise in that specialized field. Don’t try to fool anyone about how he is going to determine price; fool yourself only. No boss of cocobod can ever do that under our present position .

Haven’t you seen many educated people run businesses to the ground? Haven’t you seen successful businessmen venture into new industries of business and fail?
