Rather the hallmark of hypocrisy. Those chiefs shouldn't have stood up the first place before being asked to sit down. Why are they volunteering to stand up for some presidents and refuse to do so for others? They should stop flip-flopping. If they know the tradition is to remain seated they should stick to that so that every president knows that's the protocol. But if they stand up for one president and refuse for another, that maybe seen as deliberate disrespect and will open them up to being ordered to stand up. No human being wants to feel disrespected.
