It's true working on reperations will require an action that extends beyond financial restitution & the emphasis on this should be centered around why it needs to be done. Colonialism the Slave Trades Apartheid ect are all historical injustices no different to Africans or those of African descent than the Holocaust has been to the Jews where in each instance untold numbers of lives were lost so let's make the world respect the involuntary contribution of blood that Africa has contributed year after year by furthering the call of a reperations package that would begin to amend these historical injustices still reminiscent & lingering on from one generation to the next as we continue to age & pass on. Let's make it memorable shall we I pray, so a multitude of stories still waiting to be heard can be told!

Not saying that solve trade was a good thing but it took place with the connivance of tribal leaders. And who says European nations have not helped Africa? Billions of loans have been forgiven through the Paris Club, development funds have also been provided. Some of the funds given have gone into the pockets of politicians.

Those of you who look for the slightest opportunity to absolve the perpetrators of this most outstanding crime against humanity, are by your own self-destructive testimonies, some of the still lingering victims of the slave trade, colonial tyranny and the ensuing cultural and resource exploitation of the African people. Clearly, despite the political Independence and subsequent education that the early African nationalists made possible for Africa, some of you have still not recovered from the despicable cumulative effects of 400 years of bestial western tyranny and oppression of the African people. Your sad pathetic mentality on the subject matter, which is akin to the Stockholm syndrome, is just another piece of evidence of the loss that Africa still continues to suffer from slavery and colonialism.

Nobody will deny the fact that colonialism though repulsive brought somegood things to the colonized.It brought a common language to the colonized,formal education and religions to the colonized.It also improved the lives of the colonized.Africans still bear the names of the colonialists.In Ghana alone we have four of our present and past presidents called 'John'-John Kuffuor, John Atta-Mills, John Mahama and Jerry John Rawlings. What a legacy from the colonialists!!!.

If, as you rightly say, even our own leaders are still known by names of our oppressors, isn't that a good enough reason that should make us understand that we still have more work to do to wipe off the remaining dirty stains of slavery, colonial despotism and cultural imperialism from our native space?

Even though I strongly believe that the people of the world should be able to share and enjoy their various cultures with each other, this can only be fully appreciated and enjoyed when it is done under a climate of mutual respect and fairness.

If at this late stage of history, we still have Africans naming themselves with all sorts of ridiculous meaningless European slave names on the deceitful pretext that they are "Christian names", then it simply means that we still have not recovered from the painful servitude and control of slavery and colonialism. Surely, we are not short of names are we? Look at all the beautiful native names we have in abundance and which are scientifically applied to confer an unmistakable hereditary order of family and lineage in our ethnic traditional space.

Western Europeans came here and plundered, pillaged and simply put, stole an infinitessimal and immeasurable quantity of our resources - including human beings, for 400 - not 4 or 40 or 100, but 400 years. This made them rich and powerful beyond imagination. Yet, I have never ever met a Western European named Kofi, Delali, Ayittey, Ama, Salamatu, Kwame or Awurabena. There is not even a lane or pavement or park in the whole of Western Europe and North America named after any town or the traditional Chiefs who gave them access to trillions of dollars worth of gold, timber, diamonds, oil, rubber, bauxite, cocoa and what have you. Clearly, this albeit simplistic scenario, does not evoke any sense of mutual respect. In fact, on the contrary, it proves that they have no regard at all for us and they still think we are "shit-hole" countries.

There is no reason at all why as a proud African leader and seemingly a determined Pan Africanist to boot, President Mahama should maintain the name John. As a matter of urgency, he should drop that name as soon as possible. it makes Africans look ridiculous and subjective when their leaders turn up at international events with names like John, Peter etc.

Africa Must Unite and Africa must continue to seek reparations.
