After they were sentenced they raised this issue but Afrifa ordered them to keep quiet and face their deaths (Arrhur and Yeboah) and imprisonment (Opoku)

The only thing Ghanaian writers are good at is posting lies to the general public. The only election during the Kotoka, Ankra, and Afrifa regime was the one that made Busi the president. In that election, the CPP was banned from politics in Ghana, and all other parties affiliated with the CPP were also banned. As head of state Afrifa could not have stood for any parliamentary seat. Every well-meaning Ghanaian knows Busia was just warming the seat for Afrifa. Ghanas deterioration started during Kotok/Afrifa and Busia when all the factories were sold. Before Acheampong came to the scene there was nothing left. The UP/Matemehon destroyed the country before the Aheampong and Akufu coups. The mass exodus of youths to Nigeria started long before Rawlings because my brother and I are of those youths, unfortunately, my brother didn't make it back home, he died in a car accident in Nigeria. The Ashanti, Akyem Matemehon group will always blame Rawlings for the mistakes Afrifa and Busia caused. Blame Nkruma and blame Rawlings. Until Ghana decides to ban the UP Metemehon party from Ghana there will the development of the country will never be realized.

Afrifa could not have been convicted of corruption by any court since he went through a rigorous vetting process by a commission before he qualified to be a parliamentary candidate for United National Convention (UNC) led by William Ofori Atta of blessed memory (one of the big six). During the vetting process, political figures such as the late Imoro Egala was disqualified and therefore had to step down as a prospective candidate for People's National Convention (PNP) in order for Dr. Hilla Limaan to replace him.
The Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) led by Flt. Lt. Rawlings did not kill Gen. Afrifa for corruption but for playing a role in a coup detat that overthrew Nkrumah's government.
For the sake of emphasis, Gen. Afrifa was not elected as
a member of parliament before he was killed but rather he was killed before the elections. Ironically, by the show of love for him by his constituents, they voted massively for him although he had already been murdered. This situation later called for a by-election which was won by one Mr Akuako.
