Anokye's history of UG is bogus, in spite of the fact that JB Danquah has not contributed what so ever to the building of UG. It started as University College of the Gold Coast in 1948 with it's temporal campus at Achimota College at the same time as University of Ibadan in Nigeria with almost the same architectural design. At the time of independence in 1957, the permanent campus in Legon was already established with Legon Hall as the first hall. Commonwealth and Volta Halls were built as a donation by the British to commemorate our Republican status and was officially commissioned by the Queen Elizabeth in 1961. Nkrumah then added Akuafo Hall with contributions from Cocoa Farmers. He later added Mensah Sarbah Hall in 1965. At the time of its charter in 1960, Legon Hall and Commonwealth Hall, and the traditional faculties like Science and Arts were already put in place by the colonial government, so Anokye should check his facts right.

Lawyer Anokye Frimpong has never disputed the origin of the U of G. He correctly asserted that it was originally an appendage of the University of London, and that Nkrumah changed its name to the Uni of Ghana in 1961. He has got his facts right on the architectural designs of the University. The proximity of the Accra International Airport, and the land obtained from the Osu chiefs being so directly on the flight path leading to the Airport, contributed to Nkrumah listening to the advice of the architects in those days (who were mostly from the UK) to acccept the low-storey designs of the buildings. You may be related to the late Dr JB Danquah , so you will never accept anything good that Nkrumah did for the country. Be objective for once, Tina.
