I don’t have a problem with betting tax if and only if my winnings will be deducted from my losses before the tax is imposed on my gains.
For example I spent 5000 of my hard earned cash to bet this morning . I lost all the 5000 cedis this morning. Then in the afternoon, I spent another 1000 cedis to bet, This time around, I won 500 cedis.
Now I’m being tax on the paltry 500 I just won. What happens to the 5000 cedis I lost this morning
Does the governme care about my betting losses ?

If our leaders in charge of road tolls and monies collected at the weighing stations stop stealing from the tolls, the country should be raking billions of cedis from that area alone.
Moreover, government is making money from betting by taxing the betting companies so there’s no need to tax bettiers especially with the high unemployment rate we are witnessing.

Dear Professor Nii Quartey, I beg to disagree with you on your apparent false assessment. Road tolls properly instituted on all major new road infrastructure including modern flyovers in Accra and Kumasi could yield at least one billion Ghana cedis. You may want to read a little about how Singapore raises large amounts of road tolls and fees and generate budget surpluses each year. We have to go for extensive use of road tolls targeting all road users with tolls of 5 cedis per crossing. 600,000 users per day result in 3,000,000 Ghana cedis per day and a total of 1,094 million Ghana cedis per year. We have to include all the major flyovers in Ghana and use electronic fee collecting mechanism. Even two cedis per crossing on a flyover per car will get us to the 1 billion Ghana cedis target.
