Now let me ask you a question: suppose somebody ambushes you and hold you in his/her arms and you have a weapon to use so you are telling me you would not free yourself by using to eliminate the immediate threat to your life. Eliminating threat is called security.
If you want to know how criminals can destroy a whole nation then go to Haiti and Belize.
