We don't have the resources to waste on incalcitrant traders who refuse to obey simple instructions and laws. You cannot apply Western style democracy exactly to our system. It doesn't work, due to lack of education and maturity of our society. For this reason, I think there is nothing wrong with caning those who make themselves worthy of being caned into order. It's a simple, quick and cheap way of maintaining order. The mayor's use of the word flogging traders, seems to imply holding someone down and whipping the person. That would be going too far and a breach of human rights, however, caning troublesome people with a cane to get them to order, is already done in many places here by Metropolitan officers, and I see nothing wrong with that. Ghanaians are stubborn people and need discipline.

Please please stop politicising the decongestion of the Kumasi Central zone. Those who are critical of the unorthodox approach of the new mayor have not suggested any effective ways to deal with the issue once and for all. Many people in our great garden city are indisciplined. We need drastic measures to be able to decongest the central district of Kumasi. Drastic measures may not be palatable but necessary to effect change. Kumasi has many ‘pocket lawyers’ which is the bane of our city.The central district is congested and filthy. There must be change. This can be realised only through unorthodox drastic measures.
