*Title: "Unsung Heroes of Democracy: The Neglect of Ghana's Electoral Commission Workers"*
In every democratic society, free and fair elections are a cornerstone of peace, development, and national unity. Yet, behind the ballots cast and results announced lie the tireless, often invisible efforts of men and women who risk their safety, comfort, and even their lives to make democracy work Ghana’s Electoral Commission workers. Unfortunately, while the nation applauds its democratic achievements, it continues to neglect the very hands that uphold it.
Electoral Commission staff, particularly the temporary officers engaged during registration and election periods, endure extreme conditions. They face long hours under harsh weather, deal with irate citizens, confront threats of violence, and work with limited resources yet many of them are still not paid months after the work is done. How can a country that prides itself on democratic integrity justify this shameful reality?
*The Disrespect Behind Delayed Payments*
To work for the Electoral Commission is not merely to fill out forms or count ballots. It is a patriotic duty carried out under pressure and scrutiny. However, the continued delay or outright denial of payment to these workers sends a dangerous message: that Ghana does not value those who guard its democracy.
Some EC staff have shared how they used their own money for transport, food, or printing materials. Others slept on bare floors, lacked security protection, and in some cases, experienced physical intimidation at polling centers. And after all of this, they are left chasing stipends that may never come.
*Democracy Should Not Be Built on Exploitation*
It is deeply unjust and frankly ironic that those who are at the heart of electoral integrity are often the ones treated with the most disregard. If democracy is to be respected, then the people who sustain its systems must be respected too.
This is not just about money it is about honor, dignity, and fairness. No bank would allow its tellers to go unpaid for months. No private company would survive if its workers were treated with such neglect. So why is it acceptable when it comes to EC staff?
*A Call for Urgent Reforms*
We call on the Ministry of Finance, the Electoral Commission leadership, and Parliament to:
1.Establish a guaranteed fund for timely EC staff payment.
2.Streamline payment processes with digitized systems and proper contracts before deployment.
3.Enhance worker welfare with basic insurance, security support, and accommodation provisions.
4.Introduce a monitoring taskforce to ensure accountability in resource distribution.
Ghana cannot continue to silence the voices of its electoral workers with promises that never materialize. We must stop applauding clean elections while sweeping under the rug the suffering of the people who make them happen.
To the EC workers out there: your sacrifice has not gone unnoticed. You are the unsung heroes of our democracy, and it's time your voices were heard loud and clear.

Doing what they do best. NDC at it again. Older Ghanaians will recall the disastrous IMF-enslavement policies that Kwesi Botchwey - the infamous architect of de-industrialization and massive unemployment in Ghana , inflicted on the people.
Cassiel Ato Forson sadly has no imagination to draw on the intellectual and financial resources of Ghana to deliver us out of the indebtedness the thieving AKUFFO Addo & Co got us into! Like the good old neocolonial errand boy, he runs off to submit to the well-known IMF enslavement. Meanwhile the price of Gold skyrockets into space but there is no accountability on receipts from either of the neocolonial , kleptocratic administrations.
