I just looked up the exchange rate, and I see people celebrating it. But why are we, as Africans, always so backward in our thinking? We continue to use another nation's currency as our benchmark, and we rejoice over it. Are we not being foolish, especially as a so-called "third world" continent?

We must learn to value and protect our own currency—the Ghanaian cedi. The US dollar is American; it is not ours. It is misguided to obsess over whether the dollar is rising or falling. Sadly, many Africans appear too narrow-minded on this issue.

Let’s be honest: even if the exchange rate were to drop to zero, the cedi still wouldn't be able to compete meaningfully with the dollar or the pound. The reality is, the rate is still very high. So let’s grow up, face the facts, and stop being deceived.
