  This is just lips-service to make the royal family appear relevant. When the soldiers came from the war, the British soldiers were heavily compensated for their efforts. The Ghanaian (Gold Coast) soldiers were given peanuts. When they marched to the castle to demand better compensation, some of them were gunned down. Note that this acknowledgement only brings to the forefront master and servant relationship without any benefit to the servant.
