The deliberate manipulation of the exchange rate by flooding the forex with US dollars while at the same time withdrawing cedis from circulation is a temporary fix. In the short term it will appear as if the economy is doing something right.
Let us remember that the fundamentals are still very fragile. The present government does not have any economic policy that can sustain the strength of the cedi in the medium to long term.
What is the nation doing to get more US dollars to sell to repeat this exercise? Please remember loan/debt repayments are around the corner. Interest payments are due periodically l, say six months or a year. And they are not far off.
By reducing the cedi liquidity in the economy the government should remember that disinflation and recession are twin brothers. Japan went through this phase of the economic cycle and was seriously bruised financially. The government had to inject billions of yens to revive the economy.
