It’s commendable that Muslims are actively advocating for their rights. If a similar initiative were introduced to benefit Christians, some Christians would likely raise objections. One day, President Mahama might even suggest that Ghana join the Islamic League also known as Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Countries (OIC) just because the country has adopted Islamic finance. Mahama's approach tends to involve meeting with the clergy for prayer and then publicizing it. In contrast, Muslims often pursue their objectives strategically and quietly, without drawing attention.

STOP THE MISGUIDED COMMENTS

All negative comments and apprehension about the Islamic Banking move are based on ignorance in terms what it means. It is not a bank dedicated for Muslims. It revolve around just mechanisms for doing business using equitable profit and loss risk sharing and not the sycophantic and abusive interest based system of traditional banking. It is a financing model that government can even leverage on to mobilise investment capital for developmental projects at very good repayment terms, unlike the extortionist commercial loans which have sunk Ghana into deep indebtedness.

Looking at it from the interest perspective, how many people nowadays are confortable with taking bank loans at exorbitant repayment terms.

The mere mention of Shariah is partly sending shivers down the bodies of religious begots. The Islamic Banking is linked to Shariah because the principles are instructive prescriptions by God in the Quran and Prophet Mohammeds (S.A.W.) admonishing for society to eschew Riba (Usury - interest based financing) so to safeguard poor and underprivileged from extortion by the rich. Please take note that the Bible equally has provisions forbidding interest.
Educate yourselves more on this and stop the misguided comments.

If an established bank can have a proponent of sharia law wouldn't that lay down the ground to an establishment of generalize Sharia law in Ghana. I hope they think through well.
