A former leading in Ghana suggested that since Accra was below sea level, huge drainage systems are needed to stop flooding. This suggested did not go well with the residents of the capital who accused that leader about his diabolical intention to "Redirect the Sea to Kumasi", and that idea did not come to fruition when the 1972 coup happened. Who is dealing with yearly flooding with no end in sight, and what concrete step are being taken to stop the flooding, NOTHING rather the usual blame game.

Accra is not below sea level. Secondly, no one should have been allowed to build in flood prone areas including low lying areas like Tettehgu, lagoons, wetlands and lowlying river banks. We should plan to stop such developments forthwith, and remove all buildings in such areas over a 5 to 10 year period.

A while ago l came across a daily graphic 1960 edition when it was reported that Accra got flooded . What was the population then as compared to today yet Accra was flooded. Simply put the location of Accra just at the foot of the Akwapem mountain is problematic. Aside,the destruction of the vegetation cover of the mountain is another factor.
Accra is grown beyond planning.

Thanks for your words Amanda. You nailed it. Our problems here in Ghana are mainly due to negligence and lack of proper planning coupled with lack of discipline and implementation of the laws.
