All arrested galamseyers, regardless of national, origin must be prosecuted and made to serve time in Ghana prisons before being deported. Identify the owners of the galamsey pits and make sure they lose their assets and get imprisoned for many years. Low level pit workers should be spared court action and helped to obtain legit jobs or skills training with government assistance. It makes no sense to destroy excavators when they can be used by the government for other public projects. Galamsey goes on because the owners are seldom apprehended and brought to justice, leaving them with room to resume their galamsey activities elsewhere. The government needs to establish a forfeiture sector that will actively look into the assets of the owners of these galamsey pits for possible seizure should they get convicted by a court.

What do you expect the illegal miners to do with the excavators? Ghana has failed to fight galamsey and the galamseyers will continue to destroy forest reserves and water bodies until there are no forest reserves in Ghana.
