Actually, MPS is 24 hours operational. However, golden Jubilee and Takoradi Ports are not. Strangeky, the work load in Takoradi right now makes Takoradi Port counter productive if made 24 hours because containers brought there are cleared within one week after arrival and nothing is left to be clear over three weeks before 3 weeks when a vessel arrives. In fact the Tacotel terminal in takoradi is at the verge of collapsing because the work load is so small. So I am wondering how this will affect the activities at the Port. I think we have digitalize jubilee and Takoradi Port first before this 24 hour thing. So government must rethink and consult with MPS to study their operations and implement same to make this policy effectively operational to yield the needed results.

There is a a lot of container movement in the port before they are moved out. The ports works three shifts and 24/7 so that 24 hr economy concept is already in place at the port

you cannot clear cargoes or pay customs duties after 4pm
this means one cant clear any cargo when payment is not done
so there is no 24hr working in the Ports if you talk about vessel handling fine
