This new Act then erodes the essence of remembering the particular day that the event we are supposed to commemorate fall to become useless. For example, when the Independence day falls on a Tuesday, IT WILL THEN BE SHIFTED TO FRIDAY which will be on the 9th of March. What then is the essence of remembering the day of independence. People all over the world will know that Ghana got their independence on 9th not on the 6th.

Shifting some of these holidays to Friday is the best. It will boost local tourism. Some holidays can't be shifted like Christmas & boxing day. Easter holidays always falls on the weekend from Friday to Monday so that's also ...

Shifting some of these holidays to Friday is the best. It will boost local tourism. Some holidays can't be shifted like Christmas & boxing day. Easter holidays always falls on the weekend from Friday to Monday so that's also fine. Maybe independence days won't be shifted to Fridays and that's ok. All the rest like Farmers days, 1st July, Founders days, May day etc should all be pushed to Fridays as they are going to do. In the UK similar holidays are always on a Monday to give 3days off work.

Farmers day is not a public holiday, but it always on the first Friday of Dec every year. I kind of agree with you with your proposal like May Day, Founder's etc should be celebrated on Fridays

It's in the history books that Ghana gained independence on 6th March and became a Republic on 1st July and these two days and others are going to be shifted to different dates. What happens to Christmas, New year, eid fitr and eid a'dha when they fall on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday? Where from this cut and paste plan and what's it significance? The significance of observing a day as a holiday will be lost if this shifting system is implemented. Confusion all over why ? What Ghanaians go to the polls to elect a president is to see positive changes in their lifestyles and to reduce economic hardships but what are we hearing and seeing don't add up.

The US celebrates July fourth as their Independence Day which is a holiday . Now what is the sense in declaring July fourth a holiday in Ghana when July first is our republic day ? Ghana has imitated the US in almost everything including their way dressing with winter clothes and adopting the American way of speaking . Even somewhere in Kumasi is named Kumamerica. Are we serious as a nation? Are we not proud of who we are .

This is the same government that is also pushing the idea of a a national thanksgiving day/national day of prayer. I can understand pushing the holiday to Friday if the holiday fell on a Thursday. But here, the holiday falls on a Tuesday, and it makes no sense to push it to Friday, July 4. Looks like someone is out to please Trump.
