This is a complex piece to write. Canada, for the most part, is a peaceful, welcoming country. Understand that we have crime, and most recently, an increase in gang-related issues. Canada has stringent gun laws; as such, approximately 90% of all handguns used in crime can be traced back to the US.
This is not an excuse for the innocent lives lost every year in Canada, and yes, here in Hamilton, caused by gun violence. NO serial killer is targeting foreign students. Hamilton is a multi-cultural city with no way of telling who is and isn't a foreign student. That being said, this is the second foreign student this year to be shot and killed at a bus stop- according to all accounts, both were just 'innocent bystanders'. Questions need to be asked to elected officials on what they are doing to stop the importation of guns, to the police on what they are doing to stop the use of guns in our community, and what exactly they are doing to protect the public, and bring to justice those responsible.
This may seem like just words, and I'm sorry, but I swear on my children's lives I will be asking those questions and demanding those answers. This doesn't help Belinda's family or the family of Harsimat Randhawa, the other foreign student killed a few months ago. All I can offer is my prayers to the families.

I could remember that some few years ago some people in one of the regions of China took the world into their own hand, begin to murder and maim people.
It will interest you that when those people were finally arrested the west said the Chinese government was infringing on the rights of those assassin and maimers.
The Chinese government took the matter to court and the people involved were given the punishment they deserved.
Those whose crimes were less severe were sent to rehabilitation and that was also another human rights abuse by the west.
After the rehabilitation the people now live normal lives, like other human beings and not beasts.
