Gladly,we have seen the minister of health, Akandoh doing same. He subject matter deputy is about to drive her own exciting KPIs.
Ministers must not just occupy positions and draw salaries and benefits from our taxes. Their impact must be measurable and visible to the ordinary citizens. The days of sloganeering and propaganda must give way to cashable impact.
Politics must not be reduced to a vehicle for personal wealth acquisition but a real tool for delivering real solutions.

Assuming dstv has 5000 customers in Ghana and about 100,000 in Nigeria, what you think will happen to their revenues in Ghana and Nigeria? So base on these figures they can choose to reduce their prices in a bigger market without affecting their profits in Nigeria. Let apply a little reasoning to our arguments.

In USA for instance, you can choose between dish tv, AT & T, Xfinity and many more. The minister should go ahead and suspend their license if multi choice is trying to play hard ball on Ghanaians. It’s not acceptable to collect higher revenue from Ghanaians while subsidizing for other countries. Dstv is not the only service provider in the world that can bully people and get away with it. I know a French company has bought multi choice recently from the South Africans awaiting final approval in October this year. The new owners must accept the minister’s order or risk losing the Ghanaian market.

If the Minister had said, Multichoice increased prices in the past based on the cedi depreciation alone, and expects them to reduce prices with the appreciation, that will be cool. But by comparing with other countries, issues of taxes and other factors will be drawn into this negotiation. But Minister, you once said data cost can't be just reduced like that. Ministers must not just occupy positions and draw salaries and benefits from our taxes. Their impact must be measurable and visible to the ordinary citizens. The days of sloganeering and propaganda must give way to cashable impact.
Politics must not be reduced to a vehicle for personal wealth acquisition but a real tool for delivering real solutions.

Why is that the minister is not asking the gov't to reduce or scrap some taxes before descending on DStv? The company collects taxes on behalf of the gov't apart from traditional Company taxes paid to gov't, taxes like Vat, NHIL, GETFUND and covid levy. Why are we crying or blaming DStv for higher subscriptions as against other countries? What's the gov't also doing to bring down prices as appreciation of the cedi and reduction in inflation alone is not enough to reduce subscriptions. Has the minister forgotten that after reduction in inflation and the cedi appreciation, water and electricity bills have seen upward adjustments since they took over? As a commercial entity, it will pass on to the consumer so the minister shouldn't behave as if it's not the gov't to be blamed but the company. Sam George is fighting a loosing battle and wants to attract applause from the ignorant people. Let the gov't reduces the taxes and the utilities and see if DStv won't do same. Talk to them and arrive at a reasonable point than throwing his weight around. Sam George is a minister of state but not a party minister, he stands in for Ghana but not his party, ndc, so he must apply diplomacy in all his dealings. His public outbursts must stop immediately he was sworn in as a minister of state. Clearly, he is exposing his immaturity on the job. Kai.

Instead of revoking licenses, I suggest expanding market access by granting licenses to more companies offering similar products. This would promote healthy competition, which could ultimately drive prices down for consumers.

While DSTV’s position is understandable—monopolies naturally seek to protect their market share—the long-term solution lies in fostering competition. A more open market benefits everyone by encouraging innovation and affordability.
