Obviously, he's not comfortable because it will defeat his argument and because they have set themselves to use trivial issues to crawl back into the hearts of Ghanaians, he now compares 3100 to 3228 and then to 6000. Let the man come again.
In any case, since the cocoa is sold for dollars, should we not compare the farmer's earning now in dollar terms to that of their time in power?
Mr Oppong Nkrumah, Mahama has done what you and your evil intended party cannot do in your summed lifetimes. The cedi equivalent of the country's earnings has significantly reduced because of the apprention of the cedi but Mahama still increased the producer price. Your party would have cut the remaining hair on our heads.

Cocoa futures trade around $5,040 per ton as of today 8/5/2025.
The $5,040 price tag for a ton of cocoa is an increase of 62.58% from $3,100- all of these numbers are mentioned in the article.

Not sure how the MP got the 28 cedis since a 62.58 percent increase on any of the numbers doesn't yield 28 i.e. via a 64 kg bag or per ton.

A bag of cocoa in Ghana weighs about 64 kg and a ton of cocoa is approximately 1,000 kg. A ton of cocoa makes about 15.625 bags i.e. (1,000 kg per ton divided by 64 kg per cocoa bag).

$3,100 divided by 15.625 bags of cocoa equal $198 per 64kg cocoa bag (old price).

New price of 5,040 divided by 15.625 bags of cocoa equal 323.077 per bag.

$198 times 1.6258 (increase) equal $321.908 rounded to $322.

The 28 cedis is wrong. I doubt that the government doesn't mark up the price of cocoa it buys from the people.

Both governments haven't done enough to compensate cocoa farmers properly. Not long ago the price of cocoa hit a record high however the government i.e. the NPP gov't didn't pay the farmers more. Mahama even criticized them for not doing enough about that. Now the shoe is on the other foot.

Politicians are very dubious not worth an ounce of trust.

I was here and I tell you that all those who intentionally stayed away were NPP supporters......and mostly cocoa farmers.
