We can shout all we want, but how did the country get to this point? How did past NDC, NPP and military governments sit and allow this menace to go almost unchecked? How have chiefs, who are stewards of the lands, allow this menace to go on in their neighborhoods without caring to drive out these galamsey criminals who have been misusing the lands that they obtained from the chiefs? This menace could not have come this far without the complicity of some greedy chiefs, greedy politicians and greedy business persons. The country should be relieved to see a government that is now actively doing all it can to bring this galamsey menace to its knees, but the government will need the support of the general public if the fight against galamsey is going to be a success. Galamsey has caused too may rivers to be polluted, too many lands to be contaminated, and introduction of armed violence to many communities where galamsey has taken a foothold. The war against galamsey must be relentless.
