Efo Jeremiah John Rawlings and some Ghanaians were awarded Doctorate Degrees but because they did not earned them, they did not, and do not refer to themselves with them. That is just Common Sense. Now we have so many people with the Doctorate Degree to their names but can’t make up a single sentence. Does Vermawor know and understand what is meant by impersonation?

I totally see the point raised by Barker Vormawor. I recently applied to be an adjunct Professor at a university here in the US. Right from the start during my processing, the school started calling me "Professor" and told me straight UP that I am a professor with them. You see, GTEC's stance is definitely problematic because in the US, the lecturer even with a master's degree is referred to as a professor by his students and the academic board mostly referred to as "Faculty" which again could mean something different in other schools. GTEC is targeting people, and they need to cut the bullshit. Somebody could be called even Dr. for various reasons and that's it. I remember a truck driver in a company my big brother worked with in the past was called Doctor for how good he was. GTEC should just stick to what is expected of them and stop their acts of trying to disgrace people for the wrong reasons. Dr. Ayensu in this case is an Adjunct Professor according to the US standards but you called her a parttime lecturer in your right up and explanation for calling her out. That parttime lecturer phrase does not exist in the US and when you're applying for that position in an US University, it is called an "ADJUNCT PROFESSOR" position whether you like it or not. GTEC, get it together...PLEASE!

BUT that's not the same as having the rank of professor. You have to have the relevant experience and publications to be promoted to that rank. You are an adjunct professor with the rank of lecturer or assistant professor. You are not a full professor sir.

I think that you're very uninformed about the system in the U.S. Please, note that an adjunct professor is not an academic title conferred by one university that a person can carry with him or her to another university, let alone, another country or jurisdiction. For example: if you were hired by University A to an adjunct position, you cannot claim that you hold an adjunct professor academic title when applying for a similar position in University B, or another country. The same applies to an Assistant Professor position. But once a scholar is conferred with an Associate Professor position and above, that is regarded a transferrable position in all situations. As for the truck driver Dr analogy, the least said about it, the better. GTEC is doing a very good job and must be supported to do more, because Ghana is polluted with so many Drs and Professors. And you will find them as Apostle/Bishop/Archbishop/Nana/etc. Dr/Professor this or that, but can't provide details of the awarding institution. This is chaotic.

So a Ph.D in classis from Oxford who contributes nothing to the productive sector of the economy is regarded more than a farmer who never went to school and have farms that employ 6000 people. You won't find macro on any of my college transcripts. I started at micro and was working on my Harvard PhD in statistics. I accused U of P of defrauding its students by knowingly and willingly hiring unqualified people to teach.

If Ghana was serious, I'd file one against GIMPA for deceiving the public. The Takoradi Academic Dean is listed as Dr. but has not yet even applied to a doctoral program.

It's only when the individuals begin to use those titles in official capacity especially in academia that when GTEC has issues. If you have been observant you would have realised that, that Rashid Tanko Computer guy is not using the title Dr attach to his name?
In our part of the world people seem to abuse every aspect of laws and regulations and I think GTEC should continue. They might get some wrong but at least people would be cautions when trying to do things that the laws don't permit them.

It's unethical for some Ghanaians to be using titles they did not earn. A Ph.D is a research degree, which takes 4-6 years to earn. An adjunct Assistant Professor is not a tenure-track position so the MP did not earn the Professor title. A professor is a University teacher and one needs an appointment to that posion. In the US you start with a tenure-tract Assistant Professor before promotion to Associate Professor, and the to Full Professor based on merit. The criteria for these are clear.

It’s not true that in the USA anyone who teaches at a university earns the title professor. One has to go through a continuous assessment of one’s publications, grants, teaching, and service for period of not less than 5 years before a promotion to Associate Professor. A similar assessment is undertaken before one is promoted to a full professor position. The entire process takes not less than 15 years. These assessments have departmental, college, and external components. All these components must agree on the promotion at each level. Adjunct professors are part-time lecturers who don’t have any foothold in the tenure system and can never be promoted as full professors.

There are just too many Ghanaians claiming to have acquired degrees that are fake . There are many people with doctorates in Ghana than any of the lower degrees . Some Ghanaians also bestow on them selves academic degrees that they did not earn . Ghana must have a registry with the names and academic credentials of all those who have graduated and have been awarded those qualifications. There are just too many crooks in the country with fake credentials and Ghanaians have the right to know who is what . Oliver Barker should leave GTEC alone to fish out the crooks in the system.
