You seem to be forgetting that the stolen cars entering Ghana are not meant for use just in Ghana, many of the cars are then sent off to other West African countries where buyers are ready to snatch them up. It's like to gold trade. Ghana has to deal with galamsey gold leaving the country, but military and political crooks in Burkina Faso also ship their stolen gold into Ghana for sale to foreign buyers.

Exactly Hon, EOCO should do their work by liaising with Customs at the Ports in Ghana to check all vehicles entering the country before any duty is charged. It seems Customs are only interested in collecting their duties. Most Ghanaians will assume that since duty has been paid and the car cleared from the Port, it's a genuine non stolen vehicle. Clearing a vehicle requires the owner to provide the ownership documents. Are they saying fake documents are used to clear those stolen vehicles?? Because nobody keeps their car ownership documents in the car for it to be stolen with the car.
And if so Customs & EOCO can work together to stop all stolen vehicles from being cleared in the first place to help innocent Ghanaian purchasers.

This checks should be done at the porters of entry by Customs and DVLA so innocent buyers do not become victims of fraud but rather that importers. The agencies are better placed to effectively do this.

This situation is not difficult to prevent. The GRA, in collaboration with EOCO, should ensure that before any duty is paid on a vehicle at the port, it is first verified as legitimate and not stolen. It is that simple

If that many stolen cars enter Ghana each year, then the governments of Ghana have failed the people of Ghana by not using its authority to set up undercover system at the the ports to determine which officials are aiding the car thieves to clear their stolen cars. This easy entry of stolen cars into the country could not be happening without some customs officials being on the payroll of the car thieves. The current government should be applauded for actively going after the car thieves and their enablers, but more has to be done at the ports to suffocate the thieves.
