So surely Ghanaian customers will pay more as compared to other countries and the minister is mute over the taxes which has shot the subscription up. Gov't needs those taxes for its responsibilities but multichoice doesn't need money for anything? Is that what the minister is trying to say? Alternatively, if multichoice says reducing it won't help them, the minister must advertise for a competitor instead of shutting it down. If it comes to telecoms will he tell mtn, telecel or airtel/tigo to shut down? I don't know why the minister seems to be settling scores or taken the matter personal. He should remember that he is not dealing with npp oo but an international business entity. Diplomacy and rule of law is the path to choose.

Its simply because these prices reflect the costs of their operations and risks in the Ghana market. If other operators have refused to come in it means DSTV is the only one prepared to shoulder the risks and this it factors in its pricing.

So instead of threatening them Sam George, find out why others are refusig to come into the market and address concerns concerning risk and others including the rate of government Corporate taxes on their services.

If you are able to address these cncerns then you will be able to find out the reason for this cost structure and come up with solutions not only for DSTV but for the whole industry.

Using this buga buga "mayibo eh" threat will not lead to any solution and DSTV will resort to the court which I don't think you can win!

Recently the aveerage monthly player of the local League was published which was GHC1500.00. Yes because Ghanaians are giving all their money through GSTV to Manchester United , Chealse, Barca, Udinese, PSV etc. When you hear of Playeers in Arsenal earning $120,000 a week its because of Ghanaians paying these high fees through DSTV etc. So in effect Sam George is not fighting for Ghanaians. He is fighting for the interest of these foreign teams and producers who are the ultimate beneficiaies of these fees,

It seems Sam George is so focused on getting Ghanaians to watch Manchester United, Arsenal, Man City that he is fighting for the interest of these teams who get most of the dollars from Ghana.

Well Sam George if DSTV does not charge these high fees, they cannot showcase and pay Manchester United, Arsenal, Man City to broadcast their matches.

Instead Sam George should be encouraging GTV and other local companies to also sttart showcasing Kpando Lions, Kotoko, RTU so that instead of payng all this money to DSTV we can also give it to GTV so our local players can earns some GHC10,000 a week to keep the money in Ghana and make the Cedi Great Again (MACEGA)!

But my money can only afford a small 2 bedroom property of $50,000 at Kasoa.

That does not mean I should throw tantrum against TRASSACO Valley to reduce its price so I can also live there.

If you cannot afford DSTV as an individual don't subscribe to its services. Go and do Youtube for free and watch Ghana TV. That is also good.

A government cannot order a private corporation to reduce their service fees or else face fine. That is not legal anywhere in the world except maybe in the red countries(China, Russia, North Korea) etc.
What the government can do is enter the market themselves and provide the same services or better for less cost to the consumer.
That will create instant competition and the private corporate body (DsTv) will have no choice but to adapt or die off.
If government shut down their services unjust, the lawsuit will be gargantuan.
