Creation of new regions was in line with Akufo Addo's desire to ENTRENCH tribalism in Ghana and tear the country apart. It made no economic sense and the exercise could not be justified by any econometrics.

All the new regions are consonsolidation of tribes which aklso explains that the larest region, Ashanti Region, was left intact and the smallest region, Volta region, was decimated further to two micro regions. Similarly in the Western Region.

“Local government is about bringing governance and development closer to the people at the grassroots level, addressing their specific needs and promoting local participation in decision-making processes.”

Our current local governance system was purposely designed to entrench some people in power and to enable them exercise complete dominance over the people. The current system is faulty, it does not allow true local participation in matters that affect the residents. Almost everything is imposed either directly from the presidency or through the Ministry of Local Government.

Why should the Central Government be the one to decide on how the DACF is used?

Why should contracts for works in the MMDAs be awarded by the Ministry for Local Government?

Why must the MMDCEs be appointed by the president?

Why must the president appoint 30% of the members of the MMDAs?

Are those who elected the 70% not competent enough to elect the remaining 30%?

If the grassroots are competent enough to elect a president and MPs, why can’t they be trusted to use the same sense of judgement to elect their representatives at the local level?

The whole system is a sham, a fraud and an insult to the people. Wisdom does not reside in the mind of Kwamena Ahwoi alone.

Somebody said projects for the Brong Ahafo region were going to Sunyani and Domaa Ahenkro at the expense of Goaso. The person doesn't know what he is talking about. The hard truth is that most of the buildings in these two cities and others like Berekum were put up by the citizens themselves. Our brothers in Goaso were putting up buildings in Kumasi. Every Ahafo person pride himself of getting a building in Kumasi. So, until the Ahafos start putting up houses in their towns and stop developing Kumasi, the area will continue to see underdevelopment.
