How are the chiefs and people of Accra to benefit from these ground rents since they are the rightful owners of these lands. SHAMEFULLY nothing. And it’s high time the chiefs and people of Accra stand up for what is rightfully theirs. We Gas have for decades if not centuries have been taken for granted.
You go to other regions and huge amounts in the form of ROYALTIES are paid to chiefs, stools and families. But that never happens in Accra or Ga Lands. Rather we see Ga or Accra Lands being taken by successive governments without compensation or little compensation and in the end we see these lands handed over on “silver platter” to individuals from other regions of Ghana or put to use for the benefit of Ghana without o farthing paid to people of Accra.
Classic examples are Airport Lands, University of Ghana Lands, Lands at Cantonment, Tema Harbour and Township including the Tema Industrial Area, Trade Fair Lands, Lands at Ministries and just recent past Achimota Forest Lands which was shared among people who have no lineage or family ties to Ga people to mention a few.
Governments and other Ghanaians need to be reminded that the lands in Accra are our “goldmines” and should benefit therefrom just like others are taking ROYALTIES on the mineral resources on their lands. The chiefs and people of Accra (Gaméi) must rise and make claims to what is rightfully theirs. It’s long overdue. TSWA NI OMANY ABA.

You're grandpapi sent you to school, chew meat, drink, and chop your schoolmates all with the money from 50's -70's when the government was acquiring lands. Gyimi
