The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, together with the military hierarchy, has visited the family of Private Sarfo Agyapong, a member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) taskforce, who lost his life in a motor accident while heading to Obuasi on November 19, 2025.

Addressing the family on Friday, November 21, 2025, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, assured them of government support.

“I bring you greetings from President John Dramani Mahama. Our brother, Private Agyapong, died in the line of duty to save Ghana. He was fighting so that our forests and waters would be preserved. We will make all necessary arrangements to support the family. So please be consoled and be informed that your son is a hero for Ghana," he noted.

Lands ministry considers review of NAIMOS operations after fatal accident

The accident occurred on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, while the NAIMOS team was returning to Obuasi after an operation at a concession in Anyankyerim. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle somersaulted between the Anyankyerim community and the Airport Road.

The crash resulted in the death of Private Agyapong, while four other officers sustained critical injuries and are receiving treatment at the AngloGold Obuasi Hospital.
