You either comply or disappear. They usually request for space to pray, which quickly turns to expectation, then demand which quickly becomes the norm and then finally take over, destroying the very foundation of the establishment. Excellent analysis and submission by the Prof. The Churches accepted state assistance for the schools so that the schools can accommodate more students (of different spheres of life, especially those whose parents cannot afford to pay very expensive fees) since the state has not built enough schools to accommodate the ever increasing student population. It does not mean that those the Churches (through the schools) are trying to help should turn around and seek to dilute and pollute and destroy the very culture, traditions, rules and discipline that have made these institutions excellent. No more dilution, pollution and destruction.

Why should a muslim go to a Christian School and ask for privileges? The Koran asks them not to be friends of Christians, so what do they want in a Christians Mission School?

All the schools I attended was with muslims who were very comfortable with conditions and principles in those schools and never asked for rules to be changed to accommodate their worship rights. They managed, and no one even noticed. They pray in dorms, and nothing happened.

That's what happens when people argue based on their desire, and not the law. The constitution already says any rules made by any organization in Ghana that are against the constitution shall be declared null and void. It's unacceptable and unconstitutional for an institution to set rules that go to the extent of infringing on the religious identity of students. The school has the right not to build a place of worship for other faiths other than theirs, but to force students of other faiths to attend your worship and deny them their own practice even in their private space is 'doing the opposite of what they preach' and hypocrisy. Some of them have not been able to whip their own children in line, yet they're taking advantage of those little children of others just because they are seeking education. It's a shame. You're doing God no good when you force a person to a place if worship. If a person forces a donkey who is not thirsty to the river to drink water, it's clear which of them has more sense than the other. If other faith-based institutions in Ghana are able to manage those things well, it's about time every patriotic Ghanaian realize the authorities at Wesley Girls are engaging in hate crime which won't do the country any good. It's not acceptable anywhere in the world to go around spying students who are praying peacefully in their privacy, or deploying teachers deliberately to ensure that students who do not want to eat at a particular time for religious or personal reasons are forced to eat. That's clearly extreme, and I don't think they would wish their children go through that in the hands of others. To conclude, if Wesley Girls High School or any other school wants to go the path of discrimination, they should be principled enough to tell government to withdraw all forms of government funding, including teachers salaries. You don't sign an agreement with the Ministry of Education and go behind closed doors to do the opposite. That's unreligious; utter deception. The UTAG man should learn to argue with facts. Those schools signed a deal with government, and I expect every fully-fledged intellectual to have that in mind when discussing this issue.

Muslims are ingrates and must be told as such. For example, the choice to join the armed forces is a personal decision made to serve the country, all faiths and religions are accepted as long as one passes the rigorous examinations. The forces are funded by our tax payers and do not discriminate based on religion.
If one chooses to attend a public school funded by the tax payer, like the senior high schools in question, why should religious rules or rituals be a determining factor? Consider a decision to visit a christian hospital subsidized by the tax payer. Could a physician at the hospital be allowed to require that Muslim patients must be be willing to abide by the Christian religion before being admitted?
Is Wesley Girls not a publicly funded high school? Does the Ghanaian constitution stipulate that the country is a Christian country? Education is expected to create good citizens who will contribute to the development of the country. We should not have religious litmus tests or require students to follow specific religious practices.

Mission facilities are a serious space for distinct religious performances just like any cult. Stay away from such spaces if your belief system is different from what goes on in there.

The Prof is speaking from precedence and experience. Somewhere around 2018/2019 academic year, KNUST went on an indefinite suspension over a case involving a student and a security man. The security man was performing his duty but the student didn't want to comply to a rule of the school. The matter escalated.

How was that issue resolved?

The chancellor of the university said something like this, "Students who are not ready to obey school rules should go home."

That solved the matter.

Ghana is a free nation so students are given the ultimate right to choose the schools they want to attend at all levels.

CHOOSING A SCHOOL IS CHOOSING THEIR RULES, whether mission schools, Islamic schools or not.

This is not about changing a school’s Christian identity, curriculum, or traditions. It is about respecting the religious rights of students who are already part of the school community. Ghana’s Constitution guarantees freedom of religion and equal treatment for all, and our secondary schools—especially those built through partnerships with government and funded by taxpayers—should reflect those values.

Allowing a Muslim student to perform her prayers or fast during Ramadan does not threaten the ethos of any school. It simply acknowledges that Ghana is a diverse nation where people of different faiths coexist peacefully.

This is an issue of basic rights, fairness, and respect—not an attempt to impose one religion over another.
