Sometimes believers suffer unnecessarily because of lack of knowledge and in some cases because of a misguided understanding of what it means to live by faith.
During the Covid Pandemic we saw many misguided believers refuse to take protective measures. Some of these people were prominent Christian leaders in their communities. Covid killed them.
Up to the present moment many misguided Christians (sometimes acting on the advice of some "Man of God") refuse to take REGULAR medications for their Blood Pressure or refuse to allow their Diabetes to be treated. They do this in the mistaken belief that they are acting in faith. Sadly, most end up suffering catastrophic strokes or severe kidney disease or kidney failure. Many of us know of people who were diagnosed with cancers at stages that could be treated but who refused treatment and instead opted for faith prayers. These sincere but misguided people are no longer with us. They died premature deaths.
Man was created by God in His image and so we have many of the attributes of God such as our ability to invent things and use the world around us for our good. This does not mean that we are in any way comparable to God Almighty. God has given mankind the ability to learn, to discover and make progress so that we can steadily improve our living conditions and make life safer for us. So, for example, this is why it is idiotic to drive without wearing a seat belt which has been shown by countless studies to improve survivability in vehicle crashes. Scientific discoveries, the invention of medications, the invention of accurate diagnostic procedures and high precision medical equipment must all be seen as very positive developments. THEY ARE A GIFT FROM GOD. It is therefore extremely foolish to refuse to make use of these blessings.
