No one has made any estimate of the maintenance costs yet but certainly that cannot be realised from user charges but will become a burden on central government in the future. Even Cathedrals in Italy are not self-financing in maintenance costs.

Does Ajaye even have a conscience to have taken such an enormous fee for architectural design considering the economic challenges facing the country at the time? But since it was a loot and share government under Akuffo Addo , no body cared where the money came from . Akuffo Addo allegedly made a promise to God that he will build a cathedral to honor Him if he wins the election and so the cathedral was to fulfill that promise . If Akuffo Addo had other additional functions for the cathedral, he could have told Ghanaians about that . Now it took Ajaye all these years to come public with the intended use for the cathedral when Ghanaians had criticized the cathedral. How could one justify the total cost of the cathedral when Ghana lacks health infrastructure, roads and schools ? The amount spent on the crater at the site of the abandoned cathedral could have built first class hospitals the country . What a shame.
