Jerry Rawlings is partly responsible for this problem by his creation of the JSS system and reducing the duration of study. We used to have the common entrance to enter Secondary School. Five years we write the General Certificate Exams O’Level and then head to sixth form when we will write the A’Level to enter the university. This system despite its length was very effective.

Napo as education minister changed the system and made it worst. At Prempeh College I believe Napo was a student who went through this same system so how stupid could he be to change what was already a bad situation to worst.

To add to this we used to have the Royal Society of Arts which is RSA this is opened to anyone. Meaning if someone is in form 4 but love the challenge they can take it and if pass they can go straight to A Level. I believe those are what produced great brains like Taikata and the rest.
JSS/SSS produced some good people too but the process of O and A level has always been great. Unfortunately our East African counterparts still do O and A level so does UK. Sad truth.

O level, yes. But i don't think we need A level. I know someone who finished form five. Left at lower six to attend University in US. HE GRADUATED WITH HONORS.

The blame shd be put squarely on the heads of those who brought the education reform in 1989.The purpose for which they changed the O & A Levels system to BECE & WASSCE has not been met.The 5yrs O Level system allowed students to explore and determine which subjects they could study. Yes A Level was a bit difficult but bcoz of the foundation from the O Level, one could manoeuvre his way. WASSCE is lower than A Level but bcoz of the duration to study is short and the foundation in BECE is also weak.
