This has resulted in those in power antagonizing their opponents and clamping down on other supporters leading to chaos. If those in power will not adhere to the constitution and terms of government, these coups will not end . Why does Ecowas pretend not to know the reasons behind these coups? You have failed to ask and addres the important question as to why that's becoming a norm in the region. You hide behind the so called democracy to engage in watom corruption and loot national resources, form elite system to impoverish the masses, neglect your mandated responsibilities and duty of developing your countries, become puppets for western countries. Look at the progress that the sagel states have choked within this short space. For so many years of practicing this corrupt democracy, what have you achieved? How do your citizens about your bad governance? If the majority of the citizens of these countries agree and support military coups, that in itself is democracy, so what's wrong with it. Any peaceful removal that will lead to national interest and does not involve blood shed should be given a chance to strife. You as a democratic government, you persecute, jail and or kill off your political opponents and citizens who demand accountability yet you don't want to be removed for the right people to take over. Harassment of opposition including unlawful imprisoment of leaders of opposition parties is one of the reasons.Again changing presidential terms in their constitutions for presidents to continue to stay in power is another Unless these things are stopped by current political leaders it is going to get worse.
