The lessons drawn from this narrative have exposed the senseless carnage in Bawku and surrounding areas which has resulted in loss of life and property. If common sense coupled with political will had prevailed all these years, all the unnecessary blood shed would have been avoided. There was a judicial ruling which pronounced Bawku and it's surrounding areas as Kusase lands and thus by extension, only a Kusase indigene can be enskinned as Overlord of the area..However, due to the lack of common sense and political will, the state and other actors refused to implement the ruling of the courts and watched on the sidelines as the Kusasis and Mamprusis slaughtered each other. Does it have to take the mediation by a committee of Chiefs to ask the state to assert her authority and restore sanity? Both NDC and NPP governments have blood on their hands for their failure to ensure the unnecessary carnage didn't happen. Shame unto politicians and having said that, the intrasingent of the Nayiri should be called out and condemned. How would he have reacted if the Kusasis had also attempted to enskin a Chief on Mamprusi land?

Please when the crisis erupted, in 1957, Prime Minister Kwame Nkrumah established the Opoku Afari Committee to go into the case. The Committee was chaired by lawyer Seth Opoku Afari from Worawora, Oti Region .Other members were two chiefs and they were Nana Agyemang Badu of Dormaa Traditional Area and Lure Kanton 111, Tumu Koro. Their findings were that the Mamprusis were settlers and affirmed Abugurago Azoka 1 as the Bawku chief. Mumuni Bawumia a Mamprusi and the then MP for South Mamprusi East and others appealed against the findings of the Opoku Afari Committee report at the high court.The high court on technical grounds set aside the findings of the Opoku Afari Committee report. They appealed against the ruling of the High Court at the Court of Appeal presided over by Sir Arko Korsah, the Chief Justice, William Bedford Van Lare and Granville Sharp. The Appeal court overturned the ruling of the High Court and affirmed Abugurago Azoka 1 as Bawku chief. When President Nkrumah was overthrown on 24th February 1966, the National Liberation Council, by NLCD 112 of 1966 ousted Abugurago Azoka 1 as Bawku chief and enskinned Naa Adam Azamgbeogo a Mamprusi as the Bawku chief. PNDCL 75 1984 restored the Kusasi chief Abugurago Azoka 11 as the Bawku chief. Please the Mamprusis were said to be settlers so Dr Nkrumah had wanted to settle them at Damongo..Please the Opoku Afari Committee report and the Appeal court the then highest court presided over by Sir Arko Korsah the first Ghanaian Chief Justice affirmed Abugurago Azoka as the Bawku chief and Otumfour Nana Osei Tutu has also affirmed Abugurago Azoka as the lawful Bawku Naba. Please Mamprusi should accept the report of Asante hene Otumfour Nana Osei Tutu. Please there should be a finality to the crisis between Mamprusi and Kusasi in Bawku

Both sides of this feud have been at it for decades, that has resulted in loss of many lives as well retarding progress in that part of the country. The Otumfuo has done his part in coming up with a decision that will supposedly get the two sides to bury the hatchet and try to coexist. The next step will be for the Chief of Bawku and the Paramount Chief of Nalerigu to to take a bold step by urging their people to have respect for each other: that will call for bi-annual meetings between those two chiefs to discuss ways to get their various subjects to respect Otumfuo's decision and also find ways to get both sides to work together in the name of lasting peace. Lasting peace will only endure if the two chiefs show appreciation for Otumfuo's effort by working together to forge reconciliation among the two factions. The violence will end only if the chiefs on both sides openly urge their followers to end violence in the name of peace.
