We seem to know everything and yet have knowledge about nothing. Compensation management and pension management whether private or public are specialised fields of endeavour that require the know-how, discipline of application and non-intereference from stakeholders to work. No public sector pay system in Ghana would take hold and work when the very stakeholders who complain incessantly force inequities into the system. We spent 2US$ to install the Ghana Universal Salary Structure (GUSS) and the same amount to have the SSPP. Today we say SSPP was born crooked and is very crooked after a few years of working. It's not true SSPP was born crooked, and so if it is very crooked now, we should interrogate ourselves and know why it is crooked. Blaming whoever brought it is simply hogwash. Our pension system doesn't provide the necessary retirement security because salary contributions are low and poor and restricted investment of pension funds by SSNIT. Simplicita. There is no magic that the solution called "resetting" can achieve

And all are put under SSNIT, without some taking their salaries as pension and Cap 30, these disparity won't exist. Check the SSNIT indexation for 2026 and you wonder how some pensioners survive. About 80% of pensioners receive less than ghs 2,500 and the highest paid pensioner gets over ghs 201,000. Is it fair? If the Spine is straight for all of us, for Article 71, Cap 30 etc etc, we won't cry, irrespective of low salaries. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

In a small country like ours, we have fragmented salary structures and pensions. Why should some enjoy Article 71, which is colonial structure to cheat Ghanaian civil servants, and single spine structure, which is the most dangerous and disparaging. On pension schemes, Article 71 holders go on retirement with their last salary, other public service go on Cap 30 also on their last pay and Civil servants for the dangerous and death trap SSNIT structure. What a system!

Mr President, let us all get a unfied salary structure, Single Spine from the President to the cleaner and a unified pension scheme SSNIT for all. For your information, the least paid pensioner in 2026 is ghs 396.58 and the highest paid pensioner is ghs 201,792.37 per month. This person takes more money than the president of the republic. Is it fair? Mr President please we need a unified structure. TUC why are you looking on for all these years? Thank you.
