Ghana would have been 1st or 2nd if not for the fact that even in official circles, including public administration and service etc, Twi is the language of response even if you speak in English. It's high time we get real. English is the language of the internet, science and technology, engineering, architecture, banking and finance, economics, diplomacy, parliament, medicine, agriculture, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, etc and therefore the language of opportunity. And that is why it is a prerequisite for admission into any higher level of education. Unfortunately all our local languages will face the same fate as other non-competitive languages - extinction, because they have not evolved over the years due to a lack of innovation. Learn and stick to English now or perish!
