Former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has criticised the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over moves to initiate disciplinary processes aimed at expelling him from the party.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM's Ekoosisen on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, he stated those leading the disciplinary action against him are the ones who should rather exit the party.

I don't belong to the 'fake' NPP anymore – Professor Frimpong-Boateng

“No, I’m not leaving the party. They should leave the party because they are the fake ones,,they should go away and the true party will stand", he remarked.

Prof Frimpong-Boateng further described the National Executive Committee’s (NEC) disciplinary steps as a needless distraction.

According to him, he has no intention of appearing before any committee to respond to the allegations against him.

“I will not honour any invitation from the NEC to waste my time,” he stated, signalling what appears to be a complete breakdown in his relationship with the party’s administrative leadership.

The former minister also said he has not received any official communication from the party.

“I don’t even know the General Secretary. I have never engaged him. I am waiting for official communication from the party. This whole thing is funny,” he said.

Prof Frimpong-Boateng also expressed frustration over what he described as the gradual destruction of the party he helped build, accusing the leadership of abuse of power and corruption.

“This is a party we have struggled for. They should quit and let the real party take over. I don’t care what they do. They are destroying the party,” he said, pointing to the party’s recent electoral defeat as evidence of failed leadership.

"Look at how we lost the election, abuse of power corruption, arrogance and they have destroyed the party...but now claiming that they have sacked me, to hell with them."

He stressed that the interests of the party must always come before government and personal power, warning that internal decay and indiscipline could further weaken the NPP if left unchecked.

The NPP has announced that it has initiated formal processes to expel Professor Frimpong-Boateng from the party for describing the NPP as a “fake party” and stating that he no longer considers himself a member.

He also alleged that the party's 2023 Presidential Primary was manipulated in favour of the Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections.

TWI NEWS

In a statement dated January 13, 2026, and signed by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party described Prof Frimpong-Boateng’s remarks as “highly reprehensible and inimical to the values, unity, and integrity of the Party.”

It has consequently invoked the relevant provisions of its constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel him from the party, strictly in accordance with due process.
