Some soldier of the Ghana Armed Forces are drawing a lot of praises in Jamaica over the work of the Ghana Engineer Reconstruction Team that was deployed by the government to help rebuild Jamaican cities that were hit by Hurricane Melissa.
A video shared on the official X handle of the Ghana Armed Forces on January 13, 2026, showed snippets of the ongoing works of the soldiers in some Jamaican cities, including St Elizabeth Parish, the food basket of Jamaica.
The video showed a number of communities that were totally devastated by the hurricane gradually taking shape, with debris in the towns cleared, and buildings either fully or partially reconstructed.
It also captured the Ghana army personnel at work, either rebuilding homes or fixing roofs that were destroyed during the disaster.
One of the personnel, who spoke in the video, indicated that their operation, which is dubbed OP BOAFO-JAMAICA, is supported by international partners, including the Jamaica Defence Force.
He said that, in addition to reconstruction, the team was also supporting the livelihoods of the victims of the hurricane.
A number of beneficiaries, who also spoke in the video, expressed their gratitude to the army and the government of Ghana for their support.
The 54-member engineer contingent from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) arrived in Jamaica to assist with recovery and rebuilding efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa on December 20, 2025.
