In fact, the bane of the democratic backsliding that francophone countries have experienced so far is partly the result of their extended seven year presidential terms. Such a long period makes elections a do or die- if by any means necessary one manages to get in, that it longer period to rule. Come the next cycle, they put in structures to continue- take the case of ivory coast, Togo, Benin , Rwanda etc. the proposed seven year is a disaster in the making for our democracy
