Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu is a former Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC
News of the arrest of Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, a former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), in the United States has sparked some divisions among some Ghanaians online.
Tamakloe-Attionu, who was sentenced in April 2024 to 10 years imprisonment for causing financial loss to the state, was picked up by US Marshals and is currently being held at the Nevada Southern Detention Centre.
Her arrest was confirmed in a statement signed by Ghana’s Ambassador to the US, Victor Emmanuel Smith, on Thursday, January 15, 2025, noting that she awaits court proceedings tied to Ghana’s extradition request.
Following this, social media has been divided, with many praising the government’s pursuit of accountability and hailing the arrest as a long-overdue step toward justice.
Others, however, raised scepticism, suggesting the move could be politically-motivated or even a strategy to eventually free her once she is back in Ghana.
A section of the public also called for transparency in the extradition process to ensure that justice is not compromised.
One Facebook user wrote: “Really? I doubt this information. We need further and better particulars to be sure this indeed happened.”
Another user said: “Kudos to the current president; those who convicted her couldn't bring her to Ghana.”
Mahama Alhaji, another online user, added, “419 arrest is a setting. You will see the results.”
“You serve well or no place to hide,” Gbaran Gbolo-Sanyeri, yet another, asserted.
