The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), in collaboration with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has announced a scheduled power interruption for Cape Coast and nearby communities on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

The five-hour outage, which will run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., is to facilitate the completion and commissioning of upgrade works on a 66-megavolt-ampere (66MVA) transformer at the Cape Coast Substation.

In a joint statement issued on Friday, the two power utilities said the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure in the area.

The upgrade, according to the statement, is expected to increase the capacity of the substation and improve the stability and reliability of power supply to households and businesses within Cape Coast and surrounding communities.

GRIDCo and ECG assured customers that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure the work is completed within the stipulated time to allow for the prompt restoration of the electricity supply.

They apologised to residents and businesses likely to be affected by the planned outage and reaffirmed their commitment to delivering improved and reliable power services across the country.
