Congratulations to her, but she's not the first woman lawyer. We've had many fine women lawyers before her. Ghana’s first woman lawyer was Essi Matilda Forster (née Christian).
She was called to the bar in 1947, during the colonial period when Ghana was known as the Gold Coast. This made her the first female lawyer in what would become Ghana (and one of the earliest in West Africa).
Many sources (including some media articles and profiles) refer to Annie Ruth Jiagge (née Baëta) as Ghana’s first woman lawyer, but she was actually called to the bar later—in 1950 (after qualifying at Lincoln’s Inn in London). Jiagge is more accurately recognized as the first Ghanaian woman to become a judge (starting as a magistrate in 1953 and rising to High Court judge in 1961, among other pioneering judicial roles in Ghana and the Commonwealth).
