Christian Tetteh Yohuno is the Inspector General of Police
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted all members of the Police Royal Ladies, a special all-female ceremonial unit of the Ghana Police Service, to their next respective ranks.
The group, named in honour of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, received the promotion following two separate guard of honour parades they mounted for the Asantehene, first at the Police Headquarters in Accra on January 6, 2026, and later at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on February 1, 2026.
According to a report by graphic.com.gh dated February 1, 2026, the IGP announced the promotions while addressing the first Akwasidae of the year at the Manhyia Palace.
The IGP praised the dedication and professionalism of the unit, noting that they had consistently distinguished themselves in service to the nation.

“I wish to announce to Otumfuo that these ladies have been working very hard. They have shown exceptional commitment and are ever ready to do anything possible to make Ghana proud. For this historic honour, being the first of its kind at the National Police Headquarters and at the Manhyia Palace the police administration has decided to promote them to their next ranks,” he said.
Explaining the rationale behind the decision, Yohuno said the guard of honour was the Ghana Police Service’s modest way of expressing deep appreciation to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his unprecedented visit to the Police Headquarters.
“We have these ladies called the Royal Ladies, named after Otumfuo. They have come to grace this occasion and to make history with the first guard of honour of its kind at the Manhyia Palace, witnessed by many members of the Police Management Board,” he stated.
The announcement was met with applause from dignitaries and traditional leaders present at the Akwasidae celebration.
