  Its restoring and correcting the mistake that was done in 1969. General Ankrah and his people renamed the airport which was known as ACCRA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT to Kotoka because he was killed there during operation guitar boys. So they changed the name because he Kotoka was killed on the airport premises...that is stupidity at its highest order. Changing it back to Accra is more nationalistic, respect to the GA people who have allowed most of their lands for national monuments.

  No, Ghana doesn’t really “need” to change the airport name.
  Changing the name is mostly a symbolic and political decision, not something that will improve flights, reduce ticket prices, or fix airport problems.

  No, Ghana doesn’t really “need” to change the airport name.
  Changing the name is mostly a symbolic and political decision, not something that will improve flights, reduce ticket prices, or fix airport problems.
  People supporting it say Kotoka’s name is controversial because of his role in the 1966 coup, so the airport shouldn’t carry that legacy.
  People against it say Ghana has bigger priorities (economy, jobs, roads, aviation upgrades) and renaming will cost money and create unnecessary administrative work.
  So the truth is: it’s not a national necessity, it’s a choice based on history and identity.
