In as much as I don't condone the monetisation of our democratic dispensation, lack of clear electoral rules which will set an upper limit of how much a party or individual can spend on elections is a contributory factor. Meanwhile, can a single MP calling for the annullment of the result of the primaries testify before any investigative body and deny ever giving inducement in whatever form or shape to delegates or voters? No. They can't. They are hypocrites trying to ride on the back of frustration displayed by Ghanaians about the level and entrenchment of vote buying. Let them attempt contesting the next primaries before 2028 and refuse to offer the delegates any inducement and see if they won't lose to their opponents who will be willing to accede to the demands of the delegates.

Isn't it interesting to note how the NDC caucus in Parliament has turned itself into a parallel body of the Electoral Commission. On what basis are they calling for the annulment of an election result which the EC has publicly and officially confirmed? Why is the NDC unnecessarily over-reaching itself to bastardize this election which was merely an internal one? And in so-doing, they have subjected their entire party to excessive public ridicule. Strangely, but not surprisingly, the executive arm of the NDC party are also following the same suicidal trajectory to ruin.

We should all understand that, resorting to inducements by all to win elections in this country is only the end result of incompetent and unqualified candidates and a highly dissatisfied and distrustful electorate. Inducements - whether we like it or not, have become the only gel that binds candidates and the electorate together. To put further meaning to the latter, candidates at all levels of elections in the past, who did not generously offer inducements, never won their election bids. In addition, they were viciously tagged as being "armstrong" and inconsiderate by the same electorate whose votes they were wooing. Having been publicly certified as such, effectively terminates the political ambitions of potential candidates who may wish to stand for other future elections. So in effect, not only must one offer inducements but, ones inducements must be seen as being competitive.

Going forward, in regard to the current brouhaha against inducements, it would be interesting to see how and what candidates of political parties will stand on to woo the public for votes. If people think that campaign messages would even as much as be taken notice of by the electorate, then they are still living by the old school standards of a world that has long passed.

If the NDC Party and its parliamentarians insist on investigating this inducement affair, then they should backdate the investigations to the 2024 elections - at the very least. Chairman wants to lead the party into the 2028 general elections while the current administration is opposed to that because they have their own candidate. Baba Jamal is perceived to be in Chairman's camp hence, the uproar. Baba's presence in Parliament is likely to pose a challenge to the plan of the administration. There're interesting days ahead.

I believe most MPs did vote buying, but what makes Baba Jamal's case exceptional was that he was given an ambassador position and he abandoned the post to contest for MPs. The worst thing was that as an ambassador, he made his vote buying very obvious and he also admitted to distributing TVs and money to the delegates. I believe an action needs to be taken against him to help stop vote buying, otherwise, parliament will be filled with unqualified MPs.
