Similarly, “Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than one who is crooked in speech and is a fool” (Proverbs 19:1). Jesus Himself warned that material gain must never outweigh spiritual integrity: “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36). These passages directly counter the claim that “a good name is not better than riches,” especially for someone entrusted with spiritual leadership.
