Unless you intend to marry, never get into very close relationships. Set boundaries, and always protect some form of iron-clad evidence in case something happens. Relationship in Ghana nowadays should be purely transactional because almost every woman you meet out there has ulterior motives besides the sexual aspect of the relationship. I understand your point very well. The problem is how these kinds of open judgement will lead to a complete shift in attitudes of men towards women in Ghana. Men will consider most women as opportunistic leeches waiting to bring them down. Which man in his right senses will be willing to live or even propose to a woman knowing he’s laying his own grave? We have to acknowledge the future cultural change decisions like these will eventually cause. The judge’s ruling to give the house to the woman just because she took care for the man to build it, thus depriving the man of his dream home is very unfortunate.

We don't have to rely on culture to take over logic and sanity. Break up of marriages among Ghanaian diasporans are on the rise because of reliance and application of culture. Some of our traditions like marriage cultures are not beneficial to us and are rather breaking relationships in the diaspora. Most times the children suffer the most when there is a divorce. There are some women who believe in helping their brothers than their own husbands because in Akan culture especially, the man is most times a stranger to his own wife. In other aspects some men also think they can 'engage' women back home and put them off anytime they want because our culture encourages those behaviors. Just compensate her and dump her is the accepted practice.
Now the laws are being applied and dealing with those men. Why are we surprised? Our culture is going through modification, as good judges take a good look at the causes and effects of certain relationships.

A breach of promised will occur only when any of the above events has occurred as stated clearly in Affrifa vrs Classpeter. So if non has occurred, it was just boy friendl - girl friendl relationship. Also cohabitation is not part of Ghana laws therefore where comes from this new reason for breach of promised?

I can understand the judge in only she awarded damages or compensation for the labour services she rendered by supervising the work. But with breach of promised, her reasons are not grounded in law.

The man should go for appeal because the circuit court judge erred in law.

But, even in US, cohabitation of two people in the name of love translates to common law marriage subject to potential benefits. The problem for the man is he treated this woman as a wife from family point of view to her overseing the construction of their apartment, which at that time appeared to have been done to the benefit of both. A woman with bad intentions could have just diverted this money to serve her personal interest. She, however, did not do so due to their perceived collective interest. What price tag can you put on her contribution to the apartment construction. This woman is 60 and she deserves some grace.
