My friend, we grow tomatoes (and also onions) in Ghana - and a lot of them. In both, the Ghanaian varieties are smaller in size.

But as normal, countries cannot be 100% self-dependent. For example a country like Germany has 6 main car producers (Benz, VW, Audi, Opel, Porsche...), yet they import cars from Japan, UK, USA, France, China etc.

Then again they grow their own flowers, but import most from Kenya, through a Netherlands firm. They grow their own potatoes and yet import some from Spain. Theses are but a few examples.

Note that in all these importations, private companies import, not the govt. This is similar to the tomato trade in Ghana: govt does not import those tomatoes. Individuals do the importation.
