They also eat wild boar (pig) and these are the dirtiest kinds of animals.

Putting cultural differences aside, to people in need dogs and cats is food. If global arrangements works to maintaining the divide of a rich North, and an over exploited and poor South, then the rich North must understand that when they have eaten to their fill they can designate any animal as their pets. The poor South reserve the right to determine its pet animals based on its own circumstances. Starve your pet lion and see if you remain its master.
