I always travel to Ghana with an international driving licence but the police will tell you it is not valid there.

My candid advice to you, is to be very careful of how you are discharging your duties within your time, else you'll one day blame yourself for taking such a stupid venture. Let those whose drivers licenses are expired to deposit them with the embassy with a fee for renewal. Dumb ideas will send you to jail for causing financial loss to the state.

  Many people even don't bring their Ghana licence to Europe.
  
  What is important is what these people don't do. When a Ghanaian abroad applies for dual citizenship, it takes a YEAR before it is approved in Ghana. If an American musician comes to Ghana, it take 3 days for him to get Ghanaian citizenship. These Ghanaians who are sending foreign money to Ghana and establishing businesses to improve the economy are rather tortured by the Ghana government.
  
  Coming to Europe to renew licences is a clear case of create, loot and share. Who in Europe will abandon his work and go to the Ghana Embassy to renew a licence he is not using here? Use the money to pay cocoa farmers.

  There's no where in Europe, east or west, and no where in the Americas or Canada where there is use of a Ghana driver license to drive or for legal identification. Where are documentation to support demand for such services from those living abroad? The DVLA boss is using the government purse to offer perks to his preferred employees which would also form a basis for symbiotic relationship.
  
  What number of Ghanaians in the diaspora must participate in the scheme to break even relative to government expense? If presumed nations of the world are not engaged in a silly and unnecessary exercise like that then we cannot become the guinea pigs without analyzing cost implications.

I can not imagine any country in the advanced industrialized world sending their officials abroad to renew the driving licenses of their citizens. What a luxury!!! Unfortunately, this decision was taken in a country where citizens are dying because there are no hospital beds, where mothers are delivering on the bare floor in hospitals, where children are going to school under a tree, where citizens don't have access to clean drinking water, poor road infrastructure, etc. etc. Something is basically wrong with the black man and our political leadership. To be honest we are not doing well as people.
